Window to landscape

Wachau valley, Austria

The Wachau a stretch of the Danube Valley between Melk and Krems, is a cultural landscape of high visual quality that has been inscribed in the UNESCO List of World Heritage Sites in recognition of its architectural and agricultural history. A particularly feature of this river landscape is the harmony between natural landscape formations and man-made elements. It preserves in an intact and visible form many traces in terms of architecture, natural biodiversity and agricultural use, principally for the cultivation of vines on stone terraces.

Inspired by the constant dialogue between the organic and geometric forms from the vineyards terraces, the site specific intervention Window to landscape, is an observatory- piece that emerges from the landscape to discover new perceptions of the Wachau valley. The intervention, placed on a privileged landscape with unique views, emerges as a window that suggests and reveals a sequence of landscapes. A wide vista over a vineyard is seen through a framing device, creating new experiences through outstanding scenery of the Wachau.
