Blue Danube

Danube river
Linz, Austria

Located on the banks of Danube river in the city of Linz, the site-intervention pays homage to its historical, cultural and natural landscape. A river whose landscapes are associated with the waltz of the Austrian composer Johann Strauss, the music and dance of Hungarian Danube Folk Ensemble, the literature of Jules Verne, the paintings of the German Danube school or the images of the Serbian filmmaker Emir Kusturica. The piece also highlights a fragment of the river as a significant blue infrastructure from Central and Eastern Europe that nowadays is dealing with contemporary environmental challenges of water management, natural regenerative processes, biodiversity restoration, clean industry, flood management and local community engagement.

A project supported by afo architekturforum oberösterreich (architecture forum upper Austria), AIR program.
