Milano | CITY’SCAPE Awards | Special Mention

Insect City, a project by Ivan Juarez | x-studio, developed in Austria in collaboration with afo – architekturforum oberösterreich (Architecture Forum Upper Austria), has received a Special Mention at the CITY’SCAPE Awards, promoted by the Italian magazine TOPSCAPE / PAYSAGE and held in the context of the Triennale di Milano.

The project was recognized in the category “Iniziative di Promozione e Valorizzazione del Paesaggio” (Initiatives for the Promotion and Enhancement of the Landscape).

Jury Statement

“Insect City stands out as an awareness-raising initiative that makes the minute biodiversity of urban space visible. Through a site-specific intervention, developed with scientific guidance and neighbourhood participation, an undervalued urban fragment becomes an interactive landscape of knowledge, encounter, and coexistence between communities, urban habitats, and non-human species.”

The distinction recognizes a project that emerges from collaboration, research, and the exploration of new forms of coexistence between the city, its inhabitants, and other species, understanding urban space as a shared territory open to other forms of life.

The recognition also highlights the process developed together with afo – architekturforum oberösterreich, through the dialogue and collaborative work that made Insect City possible.
