LARK | Final Presentations

As a professor at the Faculty of Planning & Design | Landbúnaðarháskóli Íslands, in the Landscape Architecture program, the final presentations of LARK students were held during the first week of December 2025.

The first-year students presented a series of projects focused on Káratorg Square in Reykjavík, a significant plaza located in the historical center of Reykjavík, near Hallgrímskirkja, the iconic Lutheran church and landmark of the city. Through a comprehensive design process, including site analysis (environmental, physical, cultural/historical, and social aspects), the students generated design strategies and projects aimed at reimagining this public space, exploring new ways to activate and engage with the square.

First-Year LARK Students:
Alexandra Rán Viðarsdóttir, Guðmundur Ingi Guðmundsson, Guðrún Ósk Sigurðardóttir, Gunnar Kristinn Gunnarsson, Heiðdís Birta Jónsdóttir, Ína Björk Ársælsdóttir, Ingibjörg Lilja Þorkelsdóttir, Kristín Sara Magnúsdóttir, Magnús Rosazza, Sigurjóna Sigurðardóttir, Sigurlína Sól Valþórsdóttir, Veronica Sjöfn

In parallel, the second-year LARK students presented their process and executive design projects for a series of trails and pavilions along the Andakíll Natural Sanctuary, under the theme Material Exploration and Landscape Project: Creating Spaces for Experiencing, Observation, and Learning about the Environment & Biodiversity | Andakíll Sanctuary. The projects focused on designing sensitive interventions within the sanctuary, known for its bird populations and unique ecosystems, creating opportunities for trails, bird observatories, and educational points that connect visitors with nature. Students explored primary materials used in landscape architecture, emphasizing local resources, and considered construction techniques and systems to develop functional and environmentally responsive designs.
